Twitter was abuzz this morning as two of the most talented and talked-about players in women’s tennis competed in the French Open semifinals. Twenty-year-old Canadian Eugenie Bouchard, the Number 18 seed, was defeated by 7th-seeded Maria Sharapova, whom Bouchard grew up idolizing.
20-year-old Bouchard told media yesterday that her and Sharapova aren’t friends, but that they also weren’t enemies. She explained how the indifference prevents distractions and nerves someone faces when going head to head with a good friend.
No. 18 ranked Bouchard lost her first match in a Grand Slam event after winning the first set. Sharapova has made a comeback in the last 4 matches she has won after going down in the first sets.
