On October 8, the Earth, Sun and Moon aligned perfectly, casting the Earth's shadow over the Moon in a total lunar eclipse. The Moon turned an eerie red color — a so-called Blood Moon — as skygazers around the world watched in wonder. In the Americas, this eclipse was visible in the early morning hours — 6:25 a.m. EDT to 7:24 a.m EDT — and in Asia and Australia it occurred during the evening hours. It was the second lunar eclipse of 2014 and the second of four eclipses that make up a "tetrad" — four total eclipses in a row with no partial eclipses in between. The four dates of the current tetrad are April 15, 2014, October 8, 2014, April 4, 2015, and September 28, 2015.
