David Beaty, New Kansas Coach: 5 Facts You Need to Know

Kasas announced the hiring of former Texas A&M receivers coach and recruiting coordinator David Beaty as the team’s new head coach. The 44-year old is replacing Charlie Weis.

Here’s what you need to know:


1. This is Beaty’s Return to Kansas

In the 2008-09 season, Beaty was with the Jayhawks as the wide receivers coach. In 2011 he returned to the school with the same position as well as becoming the co-offensive coordinator. He was with the team the last time they finished with a record over .500, which was in 2008.


2. Beaty had a Rather Brief Career With the Aggies

Beaty was the Aggies’ receivers coach for three seasons. In 2013 he added recruiting coordinator to his title.


3. Beaty is Leaving his Home State

Beaty is originally from Garland, Tex., which is located about 200 miles from Texas A&M. While he went to high school in this area, he went to college in Lindenwood.


4. Beaty has a Family

He is married to Raynee Beaty and the couple has two daughters, Averie and Alexa.


5. Beaty Also has Bowl Experience

Beaty has coached in three bowl games over his career. The most recent was the 2013 Cotton Bowl, in which Texas A&M defeated Oklahoma, 41-13. His second bowl appearance came in the 2008 Insight Bowl when the Jayhawks defeated Missouri, 42-21. He lost his first bowl game, the 2006 New Orleans Bowl, when the Troy Trojans defeated his Rice Owls, 41-17.
