This is the dramatic video of a have-a-go hero tackling a machete-wielding robber after a smash-and-grab raid on a luxury London jewelry store.
Three men wearing helmets used sledgehammers to smash the shop windows before fleeing with a haul of expensive watches – but a smartly dressed City worker leaped on the back of one of the men in a crowded street in front of stunned shoppers.
The hero had to pull back after the robber – who was abandoned by his accomplices – pulled a two-foot machete from his pants and wielded it above his head. But police managed to chase after the attacker and arrest him in a nearby street. The other two men are still on the run.
The video was taken by a passer-by on a camera phone after the raid on Carr Watches and Diamonds store in Liverpool Street, London on Thursday.
A witness told the London Evening Standard: “It was crazy, like Grand Theft Auto.”
