Lifelong Baltimore resident and two-time City Councilman Carl Stokes did not like the way CNN reporter Erin Burnett was describing young men in Baltimore. He used more colorful words to mock the CNN reporter.
Stokes clarified that calling them “thugs” is an awful characterization, before using racially charged language.
Stokes went on Ashleigh Banfield’s show on CNN to explain himself further, with Banfield not too pleased with Stokes’ language:
Stokes is a recognized expert on budget and education for the city council and is a former vice president of Mid-Atlantic Health Care, one of the region’s leading providers of medical equipment and supplies. He also was the COO of the Bluford Drew Jemison STEM Academy, a public charter middle school for boys founded in 2006 and opened in 2007 in East Baltimore.
He serves as the chair of the Taxation, Finance and Economic Development Committee, vice chair of the Education and Executive Appointments committees and is a member of two additional standing committees of the Baltimore City Council.
