Sandra Bland died in jail after she was arrested on a routine traffic stop in Texas. She was dragged out of her car and could be heard screaming off camera about her head being hit against the ground. She advocated against police brutality openly on her social media accounts. She also started a video series on Facebook, #SandySpeaks, that encouraged people to unite in the face of racism. A recent autopsy reported that she died by suicide by hanging, but her family and friends do not believe that she was depressed or would commit suicide before starting a new job. Her story has gained a lot of attention online, with hashtag trends such as #WhatHappenedtoSandraBland. Her family has requested an independent autopsy to verify or deny the official results.
