Tonight’s combination of a super blood moon and a lunar eclipse is a rare occurrence that hasn’t happened for 30 years and will not happen again until 2033. But it will be awhile before a total lunar eclipse of any kind can be seen from Earth.
According to NASA, the next total lunar eclipse will be on January 31, 2018, and will be seen in Asia, Australia and North America.
Penumbral lunar eclipses will occur on March 23, 2016, September 16, 2016, and February 11, 2017. Penumbral eclipses are more difficult to observe because only part of the moon is eclipsed. A partial eclipse will occur on August 7, 2017.
The next supermoon will be on October 27, 2015, according to EarthSky.org.
