Milk + Brookies, a unique combo of part cookie, part brownie, entered the Shark Tank in October. Back then, we interviewed owner Jovon English, who was the sole baker of these unique treats at that time. How the Business Has Expanded Since the ‘Tank’
‘Expanded’ might be an understatement. Our online sales have grown by 3,000 percent, and we have adjusted our way of operating to match the growth that we have experienced. Our operations have gone from the mindset of a glorified bake sale to a specialty bakery.
Bring Thankful for the Sharks’ ‘Brutal Honesty’
I think that the Sharks’ assessments were accurate for where we were during our pitch. They were able to clearly see our aspirations and could recognize that we had a little more growing to do before we could go to the big league. These two months have forced us to grow overnight. We’ve developed processes, made mistakes, pissed people off and introduced hundreds of people to their new favorite dessert ever. Their assessments, though brutally honest, were exactly what we needed to hear to facilitate growth that usually takes years for businesses to experience, and for this I am forever thankful.
Catering Birthdays, Wedding & Divorce Parties
We have catered weddings, birthday parties, corporate events, baby showers, Bar Mitzvahs, Bat Mitzvahs, divorce parties, holiday parties and any type of celebration one could think of. We have our decor professional meet with clients to confirm the themes, colors and over-all feel of the event. For us, it’s more than just sharing your favorite sweet treat with others. Having Milk + Brookies at an event is an experience.
His Advice for Future ‘Tank’ Contestants
Be prepared. Once the preview of your show airs, things change. Everything increases- orders, inquiries, satisfied clients (usually quiet), upset clients (extremely vocal) and self-proclaimed experts offering advice. It’s about having the ability to discern what you can control from all of the things coming your way, and focusing on that.
