Justice Antonin Scalia passed away at the age of 79. He’s the first Supreme Court Justice to pass away while still sitting on the bench since Chief Justice William Rehnquist died in 2005. Scalia will lie in repose on Friday morning and his funeral will be on Saturday.
If you want to watch the public service on TV, C-SPAN 1 is scheduled to broadcast the lying in repose service on television starting at 9:15 a.m. Eastern. C-SPAN plans to broadcast the entire event for 10 hours and 45 minutes, as the general public pays their respects. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are also expected to attend.
Scalia’s viewing will take place in the Supreme Court’s Great Hall. A private family ceremony will be held before the public viewing at 9:30 a.m. Eastern. The public viewing will then start at 10:30 a.m. and last until 8 p.m. It should be noted that although this ceremony is frequently referred to as a viewing, the Justice’s body won’t actually be viewable. His casket will be closed with an American flag draped over it.
Scalia’s funeral will be Saturday morning.
According to C-SPAN’s website, C-SPAN Radio will also cover the ceremony.
