Background:
Christina Aguilera first met Hillary Clinton at an event in 2012 where the singer was honored for her work as a UN World Food Programme Ambassador. Aguilera has been vocal and public in supporting Clinton's presidential bid. Earlier this month, she sang at “She’s With Us”, a concert to raise funds for Clinton’s campaign. In November 2015, Aguilera and her fiancé, producer Matthew Rutler hosted a campaign fundraiser for Clinton at the pop star’s Beverly Hills mansion. The event raised $1 million for Clinton’s campaign. People reported that Aguilera performed at the event and announced Clinton as "a tireless advocate for everyday Americans and their families." According to The Hollywood Reporter, Clinton opened her remarks by telling the crowd that she is inspired by Aguilera’s song “Fighter” and plans to fight for “everyday Americans.” ‘The Voice’ coach has known the Clintons for years, performing at various events they've hosted.
