SEE: Slain Officer Blake Snyder’s ‘I Matter’ Facebook Post

Blake Snyder’s last Facebook post.

The last public post on St. Louis County police officer Blake Snyder’s Facebook page is a memorial for a fallen officer from another city who is holding a sign that contains a powerful message:

“I matter.”

See the post above.

Snyder shared the post without comment, but it gained renewed poignancy when Snyder, 33, himself was gunned down on October 6 while responding to a disturbance call. The photo is of slain Memphis police officer Verdell Smith, who was run over by a fleeing triple murder suspect. Smith left behind a fiance and children and had been a police officer for 18 years, said NBC News.

The young father of a 2-year-old boy and loving husband who filled his Facebook page with photos of himself with his wife and child, Snyder was shot pointblank, police say. The Police Department lowered its flag to half mast in honor of Snyder.

The police say that people who wish to donate money to help the wife and child of Snyder can do so through a BackStoppers account that has been set up. The department says it is not using Go Fund Me.

An 18-year-old man with a pending felony drug charge, Trenton Forster, is accused of the murder.

According to police and his LinkedIn page, Snyder was a former graphic artist and religious studies major who had been on the St. Louis County Police Department for four years.

The Riverfront Times says the police chief believes Snyder told Forster to show him his hands. “The suspect produced a pistol and shot Officer Snyder point blank,” Belmar said during a news conference, according to the news site. “It was an immediately fatal wound.”

Snyder was the 97th law enforcement officer to die in the line of duty in 2016 so far as of October 6, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page. The day before, Sgt. Steve Owen of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was also murdered.
