Effort to Extend Polling Hours in Durham County, NC Succeeds

North Carolina polls are supposed to close at 7:30 p.m. ET, but a bipartisan effort to keep the polls open late in Durham County because of a technical issue earlier in the day succeeded. There was also an attempt to keep polls open in Dover, New Hampshire.

Just after 6:00 p.m. ET, the Hillary Clinton campaign issued a statement in support of a bipartisan effort to keep the polls open in Durham County for at least another 90 minutes.

Durham County Board of Elections spokesperson Briana Khan told CNN that they received a bipartisan request to keep the polls open at 1:30 p.m. There was a glitch in the electronic voter check-in system and had to use paper roll books instead.

The error caused longer wait-times and lines than expected in the county. The issue was first reported at 6:45 a.m.

Jim Sciutto of CNN confirmed that eight Durham polling precincts will stay open for 20 to 60 minutes extra.

It has also been reported that lawyers for both the Republican and Democratic party to keep polls open in Dover, New Hampshire until 8 p.m. James Pindell of the Boston Globe reports that there was an email Dover officials sent out that accidentally said polls there would be open until 8 p.m. In reality, the polls were supposed to close at 7 p.m.

The polls in Dover will remain open until 8 p.m. ET.
