Texas Election Ballot 2016: Candidates for Each Office

Texas voters go to the polls on Tuesday to cast their ballots in races for the state’s U.S. House seats and its state House and Senate seats.

Five parties have lines on the ballot in Texas. In order of how they appear on the ballot, they are the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, the Libertarian Party, the Green Party, and the Independent Party. There’s also a ballot line for write-in candidates.

President and Vice President

U.S. Senate

There are no U.S. Senate elections in Texas this year; they will take place in 2018.

State Legislative Races

Republicans have a government trifecta in the state of Texas, with majorities in both the state House of Representatives and Senate along with control of the governor’s mansion. In the state Senate, Republicans hold 20 of 31 total seats, with 16 seats up for election this fall. In the state House of Representatives all seats are up for election, with Republicans holding 99 of 150 total seats (with one Independent). Republican Greg Abbott has served as Governor of Texas since 2015 and is up for re-election in 2018.
