Police announced that they are charging Christopher Drew McLawhorn in the murder of Ferguson. They charged the 24-year-old McLawhorn with criminal homicide and aggravated burglary March 8 in connection to the 23-year-old’s fatal stabbing.
On February 28, Ferguson was found dead inside her condo in Wedgewood. Ferguson was an ICU nurse at St. Thomas West Hospital. Her roommate reportedly woke up to Ferguson’s screams and as she came out of her room, saw the front door of the apartment open. Ferguson was in her other room suffering from her stab wounds.
An investigation concluded that killer, alleged to be McLawhorn, gained entry to the apartment through an unlocked door and a confrontation occurred prior to the stabbing. The investigation also found that the killer was around the neighborhood checking car doors and apartment doors, looking to gain entry.
Police said that the suspect entered through a door at the building, stole things from Ferguson’s apartment, placed them outside and went back for more. That’s when they said Ferguson awoke and her fatal attack occurred.
Authorities went on a manhunt for the suspect following her murder and footage of the suspect was found on a surveillance camera at the condo.
