How did Powers Boothe die?

CNN reports that the actor died in his sleep of natural causes on May 14. A more specific cause of death has not yet been released. Boothe died at his Los Angeles home, according to CNN.

The Associated Press reports that Boothe was known for “his villain roles in TV’s Deadwood, and in the movies Tombstone, Sin City and The Avengers.

The actor Beau Bridges first tweeted the news, writing, “It’s with great sadness that I mourn the passing of my friend Powers Boothe. A dear friend, great actor, devoted father & husband.”

Boothe’s spokeswoman sent the following statement to CBS News:

Unfortunately it is true. Powers died in his sleep this morning of natural causes. There will be a private service held in Texas where he was from. A memorial celebration in his honor is being considered for a future date. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Boothe’s rep said “that a private service will be held in Boothe’s home state of Texas, with a memorial celebration under consideration as well.” According to BBC, Boothe was the “son of a ranch owner in Snyder, Texas” who was “the first in his family to go to university and began acting in the 1970s.”

Admirers of Boothe’s work posted tributes on Twitter:

Garrett Dillahunt, Boothe’s co-star, wrote on Facebook, “RIP Powers Boothe. This is when I knew him…on Deadwood. A formidable adversary, baseball lover and poser hater. Give em hell Powers.”

RIP, Powers Booth! You were terrific as well as memorable in any role you played. Loved DEADWOOD (still miss it) and your portrayal of Jim Jones was fabulous.
