Zombies staged a protest at the G20 summit in Hamburg Germany, and some of the photos that emerged from the unusual gathering were ethereal.
The July 5 demonstration was a “performance piece orchestrated by the 1,000 Gestalten (1,000 figures) collective saw 1,000 actors descend upon the city’s center,” CNN reported.
The zombie show lasted two hours. According to CNN, the zombie protest was “a public appeal for more humanity and self-responsibility ahead of the G20 summit.”
The protest was dubbed a “welcome to hell” performance.
According to The Sun, “Once they assembled in a central square, the activists ripped off their outer grey coverings to reveal naked bodies or colorful clothing. The peaceful left-wing protest was intended to make a powerful statement just as world leaders including Donald Trump arrived at the German city.”
The zombies were “covered in grey clay shuffled through the city centre in a trance-like state,” according to the Sun.
World leaders attending the summit include U.S. President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Sven Kämmerer, a member of the organizing group 1000 GESTALTEN, told Global News: “I think the reason why so many people got engaged in this project is that they share the same vision as our collective does…The message of our performance is: No change can start from some political elite, it starts with you and me.”
The Gestalten group says it stands “for a more open, egalitarian society, rather than power in the hands of the few.”
Other protests are expected to erupt in Hamburg. Hamburg was planning to have 20,000 officers on duty to deal with an estimated 8,000 protesters.
