Hurricane Harvey Waco: Latest Forecast for August 25

Hurricane Harvey is spinning in the Gulf of Mexico. Harvey, currently a Category 2 hurricane, is expected to strengthen to a Category 3 by the time it makes landfall in Texas. According to the National Hurricane Center, the hurricane will steadily approach Corpus Christi over the next several hours, reaching land very late tonight or in the early morning hours on Saturday.

The cities in Texas that will be the hardest hit include Corpus Christi, Houston, and Galveston. Coastal cities have already begun evacuating as high winds, heavy rain, and a strong storm surge are in the forecast.

The last hurricane to affect Waco, Texas, was Chantal back in 1989. She carried 70 mph winds and dropped light to moderate rain in the area as she passed through just east of the city.

If you are living in Waco, Texas, here is how Harvey will impact you.

CURRENT WEATHER: The skies in Waco are looking very gloomy today. Heavy clouds have moved into the area. The current temperature is 82 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

WATCHES & WARNINGS: There are currently no watches or warnings in the Waco, Texas, area, according to KXXV News.

If the track of the storm changes even slightly, there is a chance that Waco could see significant rainfall over the next couple of days.

“In Central Texas, Harvey’s impacts will depend entirely on how far inland it gets before stalling out. If Harvey moves farther inland before stalling our, rainfall totals may be higher and parts of Central Texas may experience tropical storm conditions. Our current forecast calls for 1″-4″ of rain across our area with locally higher amounts. Rainfall totals will be lower west of I-35 and north of Highway 84. The highest rainfall totals will be south of Highway 84 and east of I-35. Winds may also gust to near 40 MPH with Harvey’s rains in Central Texas. As of now, Central Texas is NOT under any sort of watch or warning in relation to Harvey. Small fluctuations in the track or intensity will change the impact to our area. Rain chances this weekend are near 60% Saturday and Sunday with temperatures in the lower and middle 80s. The heaviest rain will likely fall Saturday but should continue through Sunday too,” says KWTX meteorologist, Sean Bellafiore.
