Times Square Ball Drop: Journalists Honored on New Year’s

Vladimir Duthiers

Vladimir Duthiers is a correspondent for CBS News and anchor, CBSN. He was among the journalists selected to drop the ball in Times Square on New Year's Eve 2018 to highlight the importance of press freedom. "Vladimir Duthiers is a CBS News correspondent based in New York. He became a correspondent for CBSN, the 24/7 digital streaming network from CBS News, at its launch in November 2014," his CBS biography reports.

He is the son of Haitian immigrants. "Like many immigrants, their attitude was study hard and work hard, and anything is possible. It doesn’t matter where you come from or what you look like, as long as you are willing to do whatever it takes to take it to the next level. As a result, they were pretty strict with me. I wasn’t even allowed to wear sneakers to school," he explained to Reuters.

He has won Peabody and Emmy awards and has reported from Nigeria and on American police shootings.

Duthiers Got His Start as a Producer for Anderson Cooper

According to the Harrington School of Communication and Media, Duthiers "began his career at CNN in 2009 as a production assistant on the news program 'Amanpour' before going on to serve as an associate producer for 'Anderson Cooper 360°.' He was among the first journalists to arrive in Haiti to cover the 2010 earthquake and was part of the team that won two Emmy Awards for their coverage."

Prior to his career in journalism,a the bio reports, Duthiers "spent 18 years in the investment management industry, most recently as a managing director at an investment company, where he led global investment initiatives for clients based in 21 countries. Duthiers graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a B.A. in political science and from Columbia University with a M.S. in journalism. He is fluent in French and Haitian Creole and is learning Mandarin Chinese."
