Times Square Ball Drop: Journalists Honored on New Year’s

Matt Murray

Matt Murray is Editor-in-chief, The Wall Street Journal. He is also among the journalists dropping the ball in Times Square on New Year's Eve.

When he was named as Wall Street Journal editor in 2018, the story read, "The Wall Street Journal named newsroom veteran Matt Murray as its new editor in chief, succeeding Gerard Baker, who oversaw broad changes to the news organization in his 5½-year tenure as it dealt with a fading print-advertising business and the rise of digital journalism."

Murray Has Had a Lengthy Career at the Wall Street Journal

According to USA Today, when Murray was named the paper's editor-in-chief, "Murray has been serving as deputy editor-in-chief since 2013. Before that, he was deputy managing editor since 2008. He also served in various reporter roles for WSJ and Dow Jones in the past."

In June 2018 he sent a note to the newsroom that said in part, "I feel prouder than ever to work for an organization that does so much so well. This newsroom has never had more talent than we have right here, today. I'm excited to meet with and hear from as many of you as possible in the coming days. I can tell you right now that the things we'll be focusing on are really pretty simple."
