Four people were injured in Mayville, Wisconsin when shooting broke out at a senior living apartment complex. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Department confirmed in a press release that the three victims and the gunman were taken to area trauma centers.

The gunman was a 72-year-old man, according to the state Department of Justice. The victims were women ages 53 and 64, and a 67-year-old man, all expected to survive. The gunman shot himself, DOJ said.

“At this time we have four people down,” an officer told a dispatcher on the scanner. “We have four victims from a shooting incident,” a dispatcher said at another point.

“The suspect is one of the victims. He’s detained,” an officer told the dispatcher. “The weapon has been collected.” The mayor told The Fond du Lac Reporter that the shooter is in critical condition. The other conditions aren’t known.

According to archived scanner audio, the initial report came from two apartments in the 1100 block of Horicon Street, across the street from a McDonald’s restaurant. The shootings occurred at Spring Glen, a senior living complex, according to Google Maps. The newspaper reported that the building is “an apartment building for low-income seniors.” There were reports “of multiple people being shot in this location,” a dispatcher said. Flight for Life was contacted and, at one point, four helicopters were standing by.

The reports of the shootings broke out on the evening of September 16, 2020. Mayville is a small community located in Dodge County, Wisconsin.

Authorities did say on the scanner that the scene “was secure.” The helicopters were initially going to land in the old Shopko parking lot but were then redirected to land on the highway. The mass shooting occurred at an apartment complex, according to dispatch audio.

Mayville Shooting Incident

At 7:24pm on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a shooting incident that occurred at 1118 Horicon St in the City of Mayville. Law Enforcement, Fire, and EMS responded to the scene and found 4 patients. Lifesaving measures were performed and all 4 individuals were transported by air to local trauma centers.

Law enforcement has secured the scene and there is currently no threat to the public as all involved individuals are accounted for.

Currently, Horicon Street from Clark Street to County TW is closed and will remain closed while an investigation takes place.

There will be no further information available until sometime during the day on Thursday, September 17. All future releases will come from the Mayville Police Department as they are the lead agency on this investigation.

WKOW-TV reported that the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office “shut down all lanes of traffic on Eastbound and Westbound Wis. HWY 28 from Clark St. to County TW due to a law enforcement activity.” The station was not more specific.

According to scanner traffic, the state Division of Criminal Investigation agents were on the way to the scene. A “second patient” was being prepped, according to the scanner. The names of the shooter and victims were not yet known.

The motive is also not yet clear.
