Bucs vs Rams Preview
This should be one of the best games on the slate this weekend, with two of the top teams in the NFC going head-to-head. It boasts two talented veteran quarterbacks, two strong defenses and two of the best coaches in the NFL in Sean McVay and Bruce Arians — but all eyes will be on the quarterback play with Stafford and Brady taking center stage.
“I have a ton of respect for what he’s been able to accomplish. What a talented guy. What a great leader to be able to do what he’s done at two different spots and really elevate the guys around him. … Right now, he’s playing great football, about as good as I’ve ever seen him play,” Stafford said about Brady this week, via the Sacramento Bee.
The respect between the two teams is clearly mutual heading into this one.
“This week is really challenging because they’ve got good players in the secondary, they have a good front and we lost to them last year,” Brady said, via the Buccaneers’ official website. “They’re one of the top-rated defenses in the league. They have one of the greatest defensive players of all time. Everything about this week is challenging — really good defense, really good offense, we’ve got a long way to travel. It’s a big game for both of us.”
After taking out the Cowboys Week 1, Tampa Bay beat the Atlanta Falcons last week, 48-25. Brady was on fire, completing 24 of 36 passes for 276 yards and five touchdowns, with wideout Mike Evans and tight end Rob Gronkowski each catching two TDs apiece. On defense, the Bucs are still stifling the run, giving up just 57.5 yards per game on the ground which is second in the NFL, but they’re also allowing 27 points a game, up from the 22.2 they surrendered last year.
As for the Rams, they’re coming off a 27-24 win over the Indianapolis Colts last weekend. Stafford went 19-30 for 278 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the win, and wideout Cooper Kupp dominated the Colts secondary, catching nine passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns. The Rams’ defense did its thing, notching two interceptions whole allowing 109 yards rushing and also making plays when needed.
With both teams boasting such solid run defenses, look for the arms of Stafford and Brady to determine the outcome of this one.
