Riley (concussion) reverted to the Giants' injured reserve Thursday after going unclaimed on waivers, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. The safety will need to reach an injury settlement with New York to play this season. Riley played on 47 defensive snaps and 214 special-teams snaps with the Steelers last season, recording 12 tackles.
Riley (concussion) wasn't participating in Monday's practice, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports. According to Leonard, it's unclear when Riley sustained his concussion and how much time he's expected to miss. The 26-year-old appeared in 13 regular-season games for the Steelers last season, recording 12 total tackles on 214 special-teams snaps. Expect Riley to compete for another special-teams role once he moves past his concussion.
Riley signed with the Giants on Thursday, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports. Riley wasn't re-signed by the Steelers after a two-year stint with the team where he recorded just 66 defensive snaps across 17 regular-season games. Indeed, the 25-year-old will need to make an impact on special teams to secure a spot on the 53-man roster in 2024.
Riley headed to the locker room after suffering the injury, and he was ultimately unable to return. The veteran safety had seen more work on defense of late in the absence of Minkah Fitzpatrick (hamstring). Riley has also been a core special-teamer for the Steelers throughout the campaign.
