A man was arrested at Bank of America Stadium with a gun, according to reports on Twitter from an NBC Charlotte journalist.
Football fans were also captured on video arguing with protesters:
The reports come after a week of unrest in Charlotte, North Carolina following the police-related shooting of Keith Lamont Scott. At least 20 police officers were injured in those riots, and one protester, Justin Carr, was killed, allegedly by another demonstrator. There was heavy security at the stadium in anticipation of protests, which were just starting to materialize.
Savannah Levins, of NBC Charlotte, wrote on Twitter, “Looks like someone was just arrested outside Bank of America stadium. Police pulled a gun out of this man’s bag & handcuffed him.”
According to WCNC, the Carolina Panthers home game vs the Minnesota Vikings “is declared an extraordinary event by City of Charlotte officials.” That means that the city may “modify its permitting process for activities such as parades and specifies particular items that are prohibited from being brought into certain boundaries of the event,” the news station said.
Meanwhile, people outside the stadium had gathered to protest the death of Scott.
Protesters were chanting, “we want freedom.”
There was a heavy law enforcement presence, just in case:
