Following the trade which brought Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers, there have been interviews, press conferences and plenty of chatter. But on Wednesday afternoon, Lakers fans were treated to a first look at the team’s newest star in the purple and gold.
During a photoshoot for the popular video game NBA 2K20, Davis revealed the debut of his new colors by wearing the entire Lakers uniform. NBA2K posted the photo on Twitter with the star forward in his No. 3 jersey.
While the Lakers gave up a huge haul which included Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart, along with multiple draft picks, this scene is another step forward in fueling the excitement around Davis’ debut. The trade between the Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans was the first of many which created one of the wildest offseasons in NBA history.

Anthony Davis’ Big Role in Building Lakers’ Roster
The Lakers spent the early stages of 2019 NBA free agency pursuing former Toronto Raptors star Kawhi Leonard. While that lasted just under a week, Leonard opted to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers, leading to the Lakers shifting their focus to other players.
Fortunately, they were able to make quick moves and add a number of talented pieces in free agency. Apparently, Davis had an impact on the team’s decisions on who to sign also. As ShowtimeForum revealed on Twitter, Davis spoke to ESPN Los Angeles on Tuesday and addressed his excitement with the roster while explaining that he had a “big part” in who was signed.
“Rob is very good at what he does. I’m very excited about the roster. I had a big part in who came in. We’re excited about this roster, we got big goals. We want to win a championship.” Davis told ESPN Los Angeles, per ShowtimeForum.
It’s interesting to hear this but it also makes sense. This especially stands true when considering that general manager Rob Pelinka and the Lakers front office surely wants to put players around Davis and build a core which may help ensure he stays in town for the long haul.
Lakers’ Roster Outlook for 2019-20 Season
The Lakers made a plethora of new additions, including former Raptors guard Danny Green, DeMarcus Cousins, Avery Bradley, Jared Dudley, Quinn Cook and Troy Daniels, among others. But beyond that, they also re-signed Rajon Rondo, JaVale McGee, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Alex Caruso.
There’s been chatter that LeBron James could potentially play point guard, as Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes reported previously. If that were the case, it would allow new head coach Frank Vogel to start LeBron, Davis, Cousins, Green and Kyle Kuzma.
Regardless of the final decision Vogel and the coaching staff make, Rondo will surely have a big role either as a starter or coming off the bench. The Lakers have also put together a well-rounded second unit which is expected to be fueled by Rondo, Caldwell-Pope, McGee and Dudley.
