New York Jets running back Le’Veon Bell took to Twitter on Friday morning to make a statement to the NFL. The 27-year-old star tweeted a photo of an HGH blood test notice from the league that was taped to his locker. Bell tagged the official NFL Twitter account with the caption “I bet I don’t” with three crying laughter emojis.
According to New York Daily News reporter Manish Mehta, a fire alarm also interrupted the normal workflow at Jets headquarters this morning.
Bell Blasted NFL Over ‘Random’ Tests in November
Back on November 20, Bell aired his frustrations with the league on Twitter, citing as many as five drug tests over a 10-week span during his first season in New York.
“I done had 5 “random” HGH blood test in 10 weeks…@NFL,” Bell tweeted. “I’m not doing another after today, whatever y’all lookin for it obviously ain’t there & I’m not about to keep allowing y’all to stick me with those dirty ass needles..find the players who really do that HGH BS & get off me..”
According to CBS Sports, another policy violation for Bell as a result of a missed test would likely result in another four-game suspension, putting the start of his 2020 season in jeopardy.
Bell Suspended Two Times for Substance Policy Violations
The Jets’ leading rusher has had run-ins with the NFL on this issue in the past. While with the Steelers in 2016, Bell was given a four-game suspension (later reduced to three games on appeal) for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. However, the infraction was a result of Bell failing to take league-mandated drug tests on several occasions.
A similar story played out a year earlier when Bell was fined one game check and suspended for the first three games of the 2015 regular season for violating the same policy. The ban was also later reduced to two games upon appeal.
In February 2015, Bell was also handed a 15-month probation following an August 2014 arrest. The dynamic playmaker was cited for marijuana possession and DUI while with former teammate LeGarrette Blount, who received a one-game suspension of his own.
