The Atlanta Falcons and all other 31 teams released their 2022 schedule on Thursday, May 12.

Atlanta’s official Twitter rolled out a teaser video before dropping the official schedule with dates and times.

The Falcon’s first two matchups are far from easy as the team faces divisional rivals New Orleans Saints at home in Week 1 before heading to Los Angeles to take on Matthew Stafford and the reigning Super Bowl champs in Week 2.

Atlanta will also get a taste of “what could have been” when they face the Cleveland Browns and Deshaun Watson in Week 4. The Falcons “rolled out the red carpet”  in an effort to acquire Watson from the Texans but ultimately lost to trade battle to Cleveland.

And not only do the Falcons take on one Super Bowl attendee in the Rams, but they’ll also play the runner-up Cincinnati Bengals in Week 7.

That all goes down in the first half of the season with the team not getting a bye until Week 14.  From there, they end the season against the Saints, Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens, the Arizona Cardinals and the Bucs.

Even “Can’tguardjake” isn’t getting his hopes up for Atlanta in 2022:

At least some fans are happy about it:

Definitely not that easy:

Fans have a right to be skeptical about what to expect from the Falcons this year after a disappointing 2021 finish. Not to mention that for the first time in 14 seasons the Falcons have a huge question mark as to who will start for them at quarterback with Matt Ryan settling in with Indianapolis Colts.

Despite several uncertainties, there’s still a lot to be excited about as an Atlanta fan. The Falcons walked away from the draft plus NFL free agency with a handful of solid prospects to fit their needs. That being said, this schedule is still going to be an uphill battle but let’s try not to judge until we see what they’re capable of in Week 1 and continue to give them the benefit of the doubt.
