Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver DeSean Jackson turned heads when he suggested on the August 22 episode of “The Herd” that Davante Adams is unhappy being on the Raiders, based on a conversation Jackson said he had with Adams.
Adams clapped back at Jackson, suggesting that Jackson fabricated the conversation.
“At the end of the day, the facts are the facts, and that is not a fact,” Adams said during a September 4 press conference. “I’ve probably spoken to DeSean Jackson maybe three or four times in my life and I never had a conversation with him ever. And I put that on my kids. I’ve never spoken to him about anything. The only person I really talk to about my feelings in general is my wife, probably, and she ain’t out there leaking anything and dropping stuff like that in the media.
“So, once again, whatever you see, if it ain’t from the horse’s mouth, it’s probably [expletive].”
Appearing on “The Herd,” Jackson, a three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver who last played in 2022, replied to a question from fill-in host Jason McIntyre about whether Adams would seek a trade in 2024, saying, “I think he’ll sit put this year.”
He asserted that the Raiders “don’t have the quarterback they want,” saying “this year will be tough” for Adams, who will be catching passes from journeyman Gardner Minshew.
Davante Adams Said He Doesn’t Want to Give Rumors Attention
Adams bemoaned the insinuations by Jackson and others who say he is unsatisfied playing for the Raiders, who signed him to a five-year, $141 million deal in 2022.
“I don’t even want to give it attention because it’s already enough,” Adams said. “The moment I open my mouth, it’s all over everything. But I guess they got what they wanted this time.
“Whatever has been put out there lately is complete BS,” Adams said. “In terms of me being upset or not being happy in this organization, it’s just a bunch of BS that’s just meant to throw everybody off and get clickbait. Everybody wants to see what Davante Adams has got to say and he’s pissed off in Vegas. If I was pissed off, I mean, I wouldn’t be here right now.”
Adams’ statement is consistent with his messaging since signing with the Raiders.
Davante Adams Likely Won’t Hide Frustration This Season
Adams, who will turn 32 on Christmas Eve and has two more years on his contract after 2024, has never been one to bite his tongue.
In October 2023, for example, after a low-scoring start to the season, his frustration was apparent as he discussed the Raiders’ offense with reporters. Still, he has yet to publicly request a trade.
“When you’re a player like me, mentally my benchmark is not wins and losses; it’s greatness,” Adams said at the time.
If the Raiders get off to a rocky start, rumors of Adams’ dissatisfaction will likely emerge once again.
And the Athletic’s Tashan Reed wrote that the Raiders will likely get inquiries about Adams from other teams.
“Whether Adams requests a trade or not, it’s fair to consider whether the franchise should explore moving him,” Reed wrote in a September 5 story. “There’s no doubt that trading Adams would make the Raiders worse in 2024, but it could help set up the team for the future.”
