Nate Diaz Challenged To Bet: ‘Don’t Be Scared’

Getty UFC Star Nate Diaz is one of the most popular fighters in the sport.

UFC superstar Nate Diaz has repeatedly been challenged to a megafight by Gilbert Burns in what would be a blistering battle between two top UFC welterweight stars. But since Diaz hasn’t answered the call, Burns has now added an intriguing betting option to his proposal. Burns essentially wants to bet Diaz $200,000 on the fight. Burns sent his offer to Diaz via social media on Friday.

He posted, “Hey guys, when I was fighting @NateDiaz209 was running his mouth. Now I’m free, and he is free, he is running away. @NateDiaz209 let’s fight at MSG for 5 rounds. Loser has to pay the winner extra $200K…Niteroi RJ vs Stockton CA.#DontBeScaredHomie”.

UFC 268 is one the way for November 6, and the UFC is targeting Madison Square Garden in New York as the venue.

So Burns wants to fight Diaz on that card, and he wants to bet him $200,000 on the outcome.

Burns Beat ‘Wonderboy’, Diaz Lost To Edwards

Burns is coming off a win against Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson at UFC 264. Diaz is coming off a five-round decision loss to Leon Edwards at UFC 263.

While the loss to Edwards made it two straight setbacks for Diaz in the UFC’s stacked 170-pound division, the 36-year-old remains one of the most popular fighters in the sport.

That means other UFC fighters want to fight him no matter where he’s ranked in the division, and that’s good for Diaz and his many fans right now because Diaz isn’t ranked at all.

Burns is ranked No. 2 behind Colby Covington as the division’s top contender.

But Burns was stopped in his quest to capture UFC gold by UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 258 in February, so he’ll have to wait for another championship chance to come back around to him again.

In the meantime, he doesn’t just want to just sit around with no fights.

Burns Isn’t Targeting Diaz Only, Even If It Looks That Way

After Burns beats Thompson, he told the media he would be down to fight either Diaz, Edwards, or Jorge Masvidal next while he waits for another crack at Usman.

But Burns has yet to receive any good news about those fights, so now he’s upping the ante by offering the bet to Diaz.

It’s just the latest salvo from Burns to Diaz. Just last week, Burns told Heavy he saw “two options only” on the table for his next fight in Masvidal and Edwards. But he also said he wanted to face Diaz if that were possible.

“I’m always available for big fights. There’s no way I’m saying ‘no’ to these types of fights,” Burns said.

Just last week, Burns labeled Diaz a “b**** a** fake gangster” among other things in a series of tweets directed toward getting Diaz into the Octagon with him.

You can see some of those tweets below.

All those tweets erupted from Burns after Diaz had cryptically tweeted, “I’d rather fight the guy who knocked you guys out…”.

Presumedly, that means Diaz wants to fight Usman and not any of the other top welterweight contenders Usman has already defeated.

Burns doesn’t like that idea at all, and now he’s offering a $200,000 bet to Diaz in an effort to secure the fight.
