1. The iPhone 6 Has New Features
The leaks were true: the iPhone 6 really will come in two different sizes. The iPhone 6 is joined by its bigger cousin, the iPhone 6 Plus. The larger phone has one nice perk: you can go into landscape orientation to get a two-pane display.
There’s a new gesture for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus called “reachability.” What makes this new feature so useful is its time-saving abilities. A “double-touch” the home button brings down the top buttons so you can quickly navigate from the screen you’re on.
Another huge feature on these new phones is the sheer size of the app library. According to figures shared during the keynote event, there are 1.3 million apps available on the App Store, with more being added every day.
2. The iPhone 6 Has Impressive, Upgraded Specs
Here’s the spec breakdown for the two iPhone 6 variants. As expected from leaked materials, the final sizes of these phones are 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus come with pixel specs of 1334 x 750 and 1920 x 1080, respectively. Apple gleefully announced that in the case of the iPhone 6 Plus, you’ll get 185% more pixels than on the 5s. The 6 is 6.8mm thin, while the the 6 Plus is 7.1mm thin.
Apple has a new chip: the Apple A8. It’s a 64-bit chip that has 2 billion transistors, but is 13% smaller than the A7. Graphics should load 50 percent faster than on the previous chip generation.
3. The iPhone 6 Has a Great Camera
The image above shows a profile view of all the previous iPhone models.
The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus both have a great camera. Here are the relevant specs: 8MP camera, true-tone flash, 1.5 micron pixels, and a f/2.2 aperture. The phase-detection auto-focus used in both the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus means you can take photos fast, and with the same technology found in professional DSLR camera.
4. iPhone 6 Release Date Is September 19
Check out Bloomberg’s report on the new iPhone 6 in the video above.
The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus will be released on September 19, but interested buyers can start pre-ordering their iPhone 6 or 6 Plus this Friday. In the past, there has been a significant wait for people who order their iPhones from Apple.com, while some carriers have struggled to keep the latest iPhone in stock. Depending on demand in your area, you may not be able to snag a new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus on release day. According to the Apple Store website, the Apple Stores that are carrying the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will start selling the phones at 8 a.m. on September 19.
5. iPhone 6 Price Varies Based on Storage & Size
The iPhone 6 starts at $199, and the larger 6 Plus starts at $299. With the introduction of these new phones comes a big drop in price for some of the other iPhone models out there. The iPhone 5s now costs just $99, while the 8GB 5C has gone free. Whether consumers are looking for a cheap phone or a top-of-the-line flagship device, Apple has got them covered, and the company seems poised to make a killing this fall and into the holiday season.
