Tesla’s Gigafactory Will Bring 6,500 Jobs to Nevada

After months of anticipation, the location of Tesla’s Gigafactory will soon be revealed. It is expected that Nevada will be announced as the future home of the Gigafactory.

The announcement will be made at a press conference in Carson City on September 4. The conference will take place at 4 PM local time. Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval reportedly called a special session of legislative leaders to arrange for the tax incentives that Tesla was seeking from the Gigafactory’s home state. Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California were the other Gigafactory candidate states.

Forbes reports that Nevada was “always” the frontrunner to land the Gigafactory. Here’s why Forbes thinks Nevada is the right choice:

“The Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center can tout its multiple links to Interstate 80, which puts it about 5 hours by truck from Tesla’s factory in Fremont, California…

The state is also home to the country’s only active lithium mine and…Nevada also offers up the renewable energy that Tesla hopes to use to power much of the Gigafactory’s needs. The wind resources aren’t especially exceptional compared to competing states, but the solar is – even outdoing Arizona.”

Tesla recently introduced an eight-year, infinite mile warranty on both the battery pack and drive unit of the Tesla Model S. The Gigafactory will allow Tesla to ramp up battery production and lower prices. The Gigafactory, built in conjunction with Panasonic, is expected to cost $5 billion and bring 6,500 new jobs to Nevada.
