As Virginia Johnson in Masters of Sex, Lizzy Caplan is earning accolades for her sexually focused work.

The second season of the series premieres on July 13, and audiences can expect more drama and even more sex.

As far as the big screen goes, Caplan landed the female role in The Interview alongside Seth Rogen and James Franco, which comes to theaters in October.

Let’s look at the 31-year-old actress’ career.

1. Her Breakout Role Was in ‘Mean Girls’

Her first big screen role was as Janis in Mean Girls, alongside Lindsay Lohan. Janis got shunned by her ex best friend, Regina George, played by Rachel McAdams, and the rest of the popular clique in high school.

She and Lohan’s character become friends and vow to take down George.

“It was like the college experience we never had,” she told Red Carpet about the bonding experience on set.

In March, when Lohan visited Jimmy Fallon, she hinted at a possible Mean Girls reunion. This is important, this needs to happen,” Lohan said.

2. She Read ‘The Joy of Sex’ to Prepare for Her Role

Her costar, Michael Sheen, gifted the cast with some copies of the book, and Caplan did her research:

When I was in my trailer, I was always flipping through that book and reading stuff about that. You get obsessed with sex and the study of sex. You’re surrounded by it, all the time.

She told Interview magazine the difference between her and her character, saying, “there’s a lot of space between her and me in real life.”

Even though she was immersed in comedy at the time, she was given the script, and she loved it. “But, I read it and instantly fell in love with it, and instantly fell in love with the character,” she told Collider.

3. She’s Comfortable With the Sex Scenes

In the interview above with Chelsea Handler, Caplan dishes on her constant sexual encounters on screen.

” I have sex with a lot of people on that show. I have to say if I had a problem with it, what right would I have signing up for it?” she explained.

Caplan also filmed some steamy scenes for her job on True Blood, where she played Amy in Season 1.

“It was like seven in the morning and I was chugging vodka completely naked,” she said about her prep work for an infamous True Blood sex scene.

4. She’s In This Jason Mraz Video

In the video above, Lizzy played the bank teller that Mraz falls in love with.

It’s for “You and I Both,” off Mraz’s debut album, Waiting for My Rocket to Come.

5. She’s Reuniting With Rogen & Franco

In the 1999 TV series Freaks and Geeks, she shared the screen with Seth Rogen and James Franco.

The show, written, directed and executive produced by Judd Apatow, only lasted one season, but it still managed to garner a cult following.

Now the three are back for The Interview, which is out this fall.
