The SCMP can now reveal that Edward Snowden admitted during his June 12 interview to taking his most recent job with defense contractor Booz Allen with the specific intention of gathering information to leak.

They quote the 30-year-old whistleblower as saying:
My position with Booz Allen Hamilton granted me access to lists of machines all over the world the NSA hacked. That is why I accepted that position about three months ago.”
It is unclear exactly why the Chinese publication waited two weeks to publish the information or why today was the right time to make the “reveal.”
While it is uncertain if the revelations that this leak was premeditated will change the nature of Snowden’s prosecution, it may slightly alter public opinion, especially in the wake of the United States Government’s announcement that they will be charging Snowden with espionage.
