Zoe Galasso was killed almost instantly after being shot by freshman Jaylen Fryberg at Pilchuck High School in Marysville, Washington, on October 24. She was just 14 years old.

1. She Was Fryberg’s Crush, But She Was Dating His Cousin

Fryberg had a crush on Zoe Galasso, according to multiple media reports, including the Daily Mail. She was dating, Fryberg’s cousin, Andrew. On the day of the shooting in Pilchuck’s cafeteria, Fryberg shot both Andrew and Zoe at close-range. The gunman also shot his other cousin, Nate Hatch, and another girl, Gia Soriano, who has also died.

2. Galasso Was Being Shot in the Head by Fryberg

Initial medical examinations indicate that Galasso was shot in the head at close range by Fryberg. She died at the scene. The same medical report said that Jaylen died of a self-inflicted gun-wound to his head.

According to a post on her Facebook page dated February 4, 2014, after posting a photo of herself at a gun range. Jaylen Fryberg commented on the post, noting what type of gun she was using. The two have been Facebook friends since May 2013.


4. Her Mother Is in Charge of Fitness at a Navy Base

Zoe’s mother, Michelle Miller, is a fitness expert at Everett Naval Station in Everett, Washington. In November 2012, she organized a national Navy health fair at the station.

Friends of Michelle Galasso have already raised nearly $20,000 for the family via a Go Fund Me page.


5. There Are 2 Victims Still in Critical Condition

Galasso’s classmate, Shaylee Chuckulnaskit, also 14, remains in critical condition at Providence Regional Medical Center. The shooter’s cousins, Andrew Fryberg and Nate Hatch, are in intensive care at Harborview Medical Center, according to the Seattle Times.
