WATCH: Helmet-Cam Video Shows Raid on ISIS Prison in Iraq

A dramatic video captured on a soldiers’ helmet camera shows a raid on an ISIS prison in northern Iraq that freed about 70 captives from the clutches of the terrorist organization.

The raid cost the life of American Master Sergeant Joshua Wheeler, a Delta Force commando from Oklahoma.

The authenticity of the video has been verified by the U.S. government, The Guardian reports. It was released by the Kurdistan government and was first shown by an Arab news station.

The raid on the Islamic State compound in Hawija occurred on Thursday. The U.S. Delta Force commandos escorted Kurdish forces to the prison, and were told to stay back and let them do the fighting, but were then drawn into the battle, The Guardian reports.

The video shows soldiers walking past an ISIS flag, and a line of hostages running to freedom. Gunfire can be heard in the background.
