It’s Veterans Day in the United States, a day we take to honor those who sacrifice for our freedoms. Celebrate the day with Bible scripture and verses taken from the New International Version translation.

My Uncle was killed in action in Germany during WWII. He is buried in Lorraine Cemetery in France. We visited his grave while I was stationed in Germany in the mid 1970s. We were the first and only family to visit his grave. I wrote this shortly afterwards.
IN A LONELY GRAVEYARD FAR AWAY
THE SUN BREAKS YET ON ANOTHER DAY
AND A SOLDIER LIES RESTING IN HIS GRAVE.
WAITING TIL THE DAY IS DONE
HE’LL RE-FIGHT BATTLES FOUGHT AND WON
WITH HIS COMRADES-IN-ARMS, THE BOLD AND BRAVE

BUT DAYTIME IS A TORTURED HELL
FOR NO-ONE COMES, NO-ONE TO TELL
OF HIS GLORY AS HE FOUGHT FOR YOU AND ME.
AND THAT’S NOT ALL, IT’S EVEN WORSE
FOR IT’S FOREIGN SOIL THAT FORMS THE CRUST
