1. Roku 3 + Sling TV

man cave ideas

If you haven’t checked out a Roku yet, consider Sling TV yet another reason to do so. Sling TV is the internet-only solution for those looking to drop their cable company, and it has tons of great sports channels like ESPN and ESPN2 included in the $20/month base package, and for $5/month more, users can also get SEC Network, ESPN Bases Loaded, Univision Deportes, ESPNU, Universal Sports, beIN Sports, and more. SlingTV is also adding AMC for free very soon, so you’ll be able to watch The Walking Dead live as well. As far as the Roku 3 itself is concerned, you can use it to stream Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, HBO Go, Hulu Plus, NBA Game Time, UFC, Plex and so much more. It’s an absolutely necessary gadget for any man that loves sports, movies and TV content. And, it’s less than $100.

Price: $85.50 (Roku) + $25/month (Sling TV Sub)

2. Xbox One

Xbox One

The majority of men love video games, especially games with mass appeal like the Madden, Call of Duty and NBA 2K franchises. Sometimes, you just want to get away from it all, throw on a pair of headphones, and escape into the wonderful world of video games. And sometimes, you want to beat your friends in a game of Madden on Xbox Live. To do that, I recommend picking up an Xbox One. As someone that has an Xbox One, PS4 and a Wii U, I can tell you that my Xbox One gets the most usage by far, and it’s simply because of the social aspects that the console provides over its competition. Playing games with your friends, chatting with your friends, and staying in touch and chatting with your relatives is a big plus for the Xbox One, and the Xbox’s social nature does that better than the PS4 (at least in my experiences). Of course, a video game console wouldn’t be worth it if it didn’t have some truly badass games on it, like Dragon Age Inquisition, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Evolve.

3. Viewsonic PJD7820HD 1080p 3D Home Theater Projector

Projector

Forget about HDTVs, pick yourself up a full 1080p 3D capable home theater projector for the most enjoyable movie-viewing and gameplay experience. Viewsonic is well-known in the projector market for quality, affordable projectors, and the PJD7820HD is no different. It supports Full HD 1080p (1920×1080) and has a 15000:1 contrast ratio with multiple inputs, including HDMI, dual VGA, VGA out and audio in/out. HDMI means it’ll work with your Xbox One (or PS4 if you go that route), as well as your Roku. The PJD7820HD has BrilliantColor technology that provides exceptional display quality in any lighting situation (although it looks best in the dark, of course). It also has an industry-leading 3-year limited warranty on parts and labor, as well as a 1-year warranty on the lamp. This projector will ensure that you never want to leave your man cave ever again.

4. Logitech Harmony Home Control

cool gadgets

Do yourself a favor and throw your basic $4 universal remote in the garbage can — that’s not a man cave-approved remote control, sorry. And, let’s face it, you lose it all too often anyway. One cool gadget you need for your man cave is a Logitech Harmony Home Control, a universal smart remote and base that allows you to use your smartphone as a remote as well. The device not only works with the majority of your entertainment devices, but also your home automation devices like Philips Hue or Nest Learning Thermostat (so you can lower the lights or change the temperature without even leaving your seat). The Logitech Harmony Home control works with over 270,000 devices, including TVs, satellite and cable boxes, blu-ray players, Apple TV, Roku, Sonos, Xbox, Philips Hue and more. So if you want to control your man cave without having to get up, pick up the Logitech Harmony Home Control — you’ll feel like a wizard!

 5. Bose SoundLink On-Ear Bluetooth Headphones

Best wireless headphones

If you doubt the sound quality of anything Bose, you know nothing about anything ever. Well, that’s a bit of an overstatement, but my point is that Bose is well-known for high quality sound output in their speakers and their headphones. Their Soundlink On-ear bluetooth headphones provide crisp and powerful sound and sports a whopping 15 hours of playtime on one single charge. They’re very light, weighing in at just .3 lbs, and the white design looks especially great. The earcups rotate for an adjustable fit, and the headband is soft and rests gently on your head. The earcups are soft, and fold up so that you can store them in its compact carrying case. A quick 15-minute charge gives an extra 2 hours of playback, which is the quickest charge out of any wireless headset in its class. The SoundLink bluetooth headphones also adjust their volume as the noise around you changes. These are the best wireless headphones available for the non-athlete.

6. Philips Hue Personal Wireless Lighting

cool gadgets

Don’t let the higher price of entry stop you from picking up Philips Hue Personal Wireless Lighting bulbs. These 9-watt (60-Watt replacement) Hue bulbs use LED technology to deliver up to 80 percent energy savings and a long life of 15,000 hours. That’s right — 15,000 hours. You’re also able to control the lights with your smartphone, as well as change the colors if you want to give your room a certain aura (color lighting does that, and you can choose from 16 million colors). A starter pack of these includes 3 bulbs and the base for $199, but their function and lifetime make it worth it.

7. Toshiba Encrypted USB Flash Drive

cool gadgets

If you’re a man that needs his privacy, might I suggest picking up one of Toshiba’s Encrypted USB Flash Drives. We all have some stuff on our hard drives that we wouldn’t want anyone else to know about, and Toshiba’s Encrypted USB sticks require a PIN unlock before the drive can be accessed. So, you know, if you don’t want your kids to find certain things while they’re using the family computer, or you don’t want your wife to know that you’re actually watching the latest season of Dancing With the Stars, use an encrypted USB drive to keep your files private and safe so that you can later access them in the privacy of your man cave.

8. OptiShot 2 Golf Simulator

There’s nothing like hit around some golf balls to relax a man, but you can’t always get outside to do so. But with the OptiShot 2 Golf Simulator (which works with PC or Mac), you can use your own clubs to hit real or foam golf balls indoors while playing on world-famous courses — at least digitally. The award-winning OptiShot 2 Golf Simulator will help you improve your game from the comfort of your own home, and you can even play without any pants because you’ll be in your man cave. There’s no rule that says you have to wear pants in your man cave. Pantless golf? Count me in! It’s even better when you use it with the projector for the ultimate experience.

9. Coolest Clock

If you frequent IndieGoGo for the latest, coolest gadgets, you might have noticed the Coolest Clock concept from a company out of Austria. It’s not yet available, but it is currently being funded with 25 days left. Basically, it takes the traditional clock concept and turns it into a simply beautiful and unique projection clock that can be personalized to display a variety of clock faces and information, such as weather and social media notifications. Apparently, the Coolest Clock won’t be ready for shipping until Christmas 2015, but the idea is pretty badass, and the demos the company has shown for these clocks would look great in your man cave.

10. Nespresso Pixie Espresso Maker

man cave ideas

Making the perfect espresso is not only time consuming, it’s difficult and unlikely that you’ll actually get a great cup of espresso. But Nespresso has set out to fix that problem with the Nespresso Pixie Espress Maker. It basically works like a Keurig does for coffee, but instead of coffee it takes espresso pods. The Nespresso Pixie Espresso Maker will deliver an espresso to you using one of the capsules (think K-Cups) with a flawless espresso every time. So if you’re done trying to make your own espressos with some crappy espresso maker, pick up a Nespresso Pixie Espresso Maker.

Price: $179.99 (21 percent off MSRP)

The encrypted flash drive is such a stupid idea. Really reaching there, especially when you could have picked an arcade console or MAME console, a full-size popcorn or cotton candy machine, a media server with locally stored streaming content, or some kind of sports-enthusiast themed memorabilia. Disappointed.
