1. The Boys Alleged They Had Sexual Contact With Madeline Marx
Both teenage boys are accusing Madeline Marx of having sexual contact with them. However, their stories differ somewhat. According to The Dayton Daily News, the “17-year-old student told police he was given oral sex by a teacher July 19, according to the complaint, affidavit and statement of facts filed with Kettering Municipal Court.”
The second youth was a 16-year-old boy, who “told police he had intercourse with a substitute teacher Sept. 21,” the newspaper reported. Marx was arrested on Wednesday, November 8 by police in Kettering. Kettering is a suburb of Dayton Ohio that has a population of about 55,000 people.
2. Marx Is Also Accused of Sending Nude Photos on Social Media
The Dayton Daily News reported that there are also accusations of sexting in the case. “Marx confessed to the conduct and to sending several nude pictures via Snapchat and Instagram,” the station reported. WHIO-TV also reported: “The documents also state she admitted to Kettering police detectives to sending ‘several nude pictures’ through Snap Chat and Instagram to one of the students.”
It’s alleged that the encounters took place in parking lots. “Marx is accused of having sex with one of the students in July in the parking lot of Big Lots on Wilmington Pike in Kettering, the documents read. She also was accused of having sex with the other student in the parking lot of Van Buren Apartments on Smithville Road in September,” WHIO-TV reported.
3. Marx Wrote That She Was ‘Passionate About Children’ In Her Application to Teach
The Dayton Daily News obtained Marx’s personnel file and noted that she wrote on her application to be a teacher: “I am passionate about children and their education. I am a hard-worker, who focuses on individual student’s strengths and needs. I have worked with special needs children since high school.” She cited as her top reason for wanting to be a teacher, according to the newspaper: “The ability to provide children an advocate for their education as well as their well-being.”
The Dayton newspaper also obtained Marx’s resume. On it, she said that she had “graduated in 2012 from Chaminade Julienne High School in Dayton. She graduated from UD in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in education. She attained a 3.58 grade-point average, graduated cum laude and spent several terms on the Dean’s List.” She worked as a sales associate, with a youth with cerebral palsy, and as a clothing store manager and then received a K-12 educator’s license, the newspaper reported. She was previously a student teacher at an elementary school and described other school “field experience” on her resume, the Daily News reported.
4. The School Removed Marx From Contact With Students
The School District says it acted swiftly once it became aware of the accusations. “We became aware (the teacher was) possibly involved with inappropriate activities with a juvenile,” Kettering Superintendent Scott Inskeep said. “When we become aware of them, then we will remove those people and not have them around our students.”
She was a substitute teacher in the district for two years. “Teachers are entrusted with the responsibility of educating children who are becoming young adults,” said Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr., adding, “this defendant took advantage of her position and developing a sexual relationship with minor students.”
Fox45 reported that other students told the district of the accusations. “Students went to Fairmont’s principal and said they were concerned about a sexual relationship between a student and Marx before classes started Wednesday. According to officials, she was immediately removed from the classroom,” the television station reported.
