Amnesia After Hanging: Teen Caught in Noose Doesn’t Remember

In 2011 teenager Jessica Rue made headlines after she apparently accidentally hung herself from a noose at the Creepyworld haunted house and hung there for up to ten minutes while visitors walked by and thought her struggling for life was simply part of the show.

The New York Daily News reports that since the incident the now 19 year old girl not only suffered from a three day coma but also is facing various side effects of neurological damage – the extent of which doctors say is uncertain at this time. Because of the trauma and damage both her and her family are now suing both Creepyworld and its parent, Halloween Productions Inc., to cover both medical costs and long-term trauma miss Rue will suffer.

The incident that led to this whole fiasco occurred on October 27, 2011 when Rue was working at the Creepyworld haunted house in a bathroom scene, standing on the side of a bathtub spattered with fake blood with the noose bolted to the ceiling. Investigators noted scuff marks on the walls and side of the tub from her shoes as well as burn marks on her fingers from struggling to get free of the noose.

What is a bit difficult to understand in this lawsuit, though, is how exactly Creepyworld is being targeted for negligence due to the fact that Rue apparently “accidentally fell into the noose”. For those of you who are unfamiliar with a noose (or simply ropes hanging loosely with a loop at their base) this is an incredibly difficult feat to accomplish.

In order to accidentally get her head into a noose bolted to the ceiling Rue would have had to find just the right angle to somehow slip her head into the rope and then hang there, especially with the size of a hangman’s knot that could help the noose be more easily knocked away should she be falling towards it. One potential alternative is that she put her own head in there simply to joke around and give the spectators a show – something that went horribly wrong when she couldn’t get free.

With her memory gone nobody may ever know what really happened, but the lawsuit against the companies is still on.
