Canadian border agents at two major Ontario airports have reported seizing more than 9 kilograms (19.8 lbs) of cocaine worth over $540,000 in the first three days of February.

According to the Toronto Sun, officers with the Canadian Border Services Agency at Pearson International Airport just outside Toronto and John C. Munro Airport in Hamilton say they made three separate busts and seized cocaine, heroin and opium from travellers arriving from Venezuela, Jamaica and the Middle East.

The first bust took place on February 1, when border guards at Pearson discovered six sealed packages of cocaine weighing six kilograms in a mailbag that arrived from Jamaica.

On February 3, Pearson’s border agents found three kilograms of cocaine hidden in secret compartments inside a suitcase belonging to a man arriving from Venezuela.

On February 4, border guards at Hamilton’s John C. Munro airport uncovered 72 grams of cocaine hidden inside packages of coffee.

According to border agents at Pearson, at the end of January more than $3 million worth of opium and heroin was found concealed inside children’s toys, apparently shipped from the Middle East.
