One student was shot in the neck after a gunman entered Carver High School in North Carolina, reports Fox 8.
A suspect was apprehended when police arrived on the scene.
Here’s what you need to know…
1. One Victim Was Shot Twice
The high school have said that one victim was shot twice but is expected to survive. The wounded person is being treated at the local Baptist Hospital. The school is at 3545 Carver School Road in northeast Winston-Salem (above). The person, believed to be a student, is 15 years old, reports News 14. Police officers responded to the shooting incident around 2:45 p.m. after a witness reported hearing four/five shots. 30 to 60 police officers responded to the crime scene.
2. One Suspect Has Been Arrested

The identity of the alleged shooter has not been revealed.
3. The School Was Locked Down

The school remains on lockdown to “preserve evidence” reports News 14. According to WXII, around 30 officers responded to the scene.
As news of the shooting broke, worried parents descended on the school.

As anxious parents arrived at the school, police took their time working out the logistics as to how to release the children from the school. The Winston Salem Journal reported:
School officials said at 3:30 p.m. that parents could pick up their children at the Carl H. Russell Community Center at 3521 Carver School Road near the school.
School officials released its students to their caretakers or public buses earlier this afternoon around 4:15 a.m.
4. This is the Second Gun Incident at the School This Year
In January 2013, the school was locked down for an hour while police removed a student who brought an unloaded .22 pistol to school in his book bag, reported Fox 8.
5. The School’s Opening Football Game of the Season Has Been Canceled

The school’s opening football game of the season against RJ Reynolds scheduled for tonight has been canceled. Football is a big deal at the school where they have won 11 conference championships (1988, 1990, 1991, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005), in addition to two state titles in 1998 and 2002. It’s also the alma mater of WNBA Championship winning player Camille Little.
