Here’s our next collection of awesome PS4 games that graced gamers in 2016.
MLB The Show 16
Sony San Diego is hitting constant home runs with Sony’s baseball sim IP. The already near perfect on-field gameplay of MLB The Show got refined even further than before. The 11th installment of the ongoing series included a unique take on territory supremacy with its addictive Conquest Mode. We never knew we’d get such a kick out of capturing portions of the US just by taking down rival MLB teams in shorter games. The PVP Battle Royale mode also did a lot to give us some more fine tuned baseball action to get sucked into. And finally, the Showtime mechanic helped make any game’s game changing moments slow down to a crawl and replicate the feel of how a real player must feel during them. MLB The Show 16 gave baseball fans the best representation of their favorite pastime.
Enter the Gungeon
Devolver Digital is quickly transforming into one of the better video game publishers on the current landscape. They got together with the talented development team of Dodge Roll to release a fresh mix of bullet hell shooting and rouguelike elements within Enter the Gungeon (man, that name is pure perfection). Imaging the frantic gunplay of Metal Slug mashed together with the dungeon crawling adventures of The Binding of Isaac. Sounds amazing, right? THAT’S BECAUSE IT IS! Each of the four selectable run n’ gunners come with their own special abilities and a varied selection of weapons to go ham with. The chaotic rooms contained within each floor of the Gungeon is jam packed with baddies to blast away and tons of enemy projectiles to avoid. Enter the Gungeon is a ripping good time.

Overwatch
Taken from Game Review: It’s Overwatch’s potential longevity that adds such a mass appeal to it. It has been awhile since fans have been able to confidently sink their teeth into a new game knowing that there’s going to be a huge community and support around it. Luckily, it appears as though Blizzard is putting many of its chips on Overwatch, with the promise of free content updates in the future that will add more characters and modes to the game. Overwatch should be considered the first multiplayer masterpiece of the Xbox One/PS4 era. And honestly, if no other quality game were to release for the rest of 2016, I’d still be able to call 2016 one of the best years in gaming, thanks to Overwatch.
Alienation
So the shoot ’em up masterminds behind Dead Nation, Resogun and Super Stardust Delta made another one – Alienation. So the premise is simple to wrap your head around – aliens have come to Earth to do bad. It turns out they’ve already committed the worst of the worst since they’ve wiped out most of the human population. As a powerful UNX soldier, you squad up with three other armed fighters to do damage to that alien threat. This top-down, isometric shooter stays frantic and truly keeps your fingers trembling during each alien encounter. Collecting loot in the form of legendary firearms, making good use of each soldier’s special power and fulfilling enemy bounties made Alienation top of the mill entertainment.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Taken from Game Review: With all that being said, Uncharted 4 is now the best PS4 game of 2016. Whether you’re talking about the best video game story, the best visuals, the best sound design, or simply the best overall game, the answer is Uncharted 4. It’s hard to imagine the possibility of an Uncharted 5, as I’m not sure how the developer could give us something better in the future. But if anyone can do it, it’s Naughty Dog, and Uncharted 4 proves that they’re the king of storytelling, and the game should serve as a challenge to all other developers to top it.

DOOM
Taken from Game Review: DOOM has reared its demonic head once again and we’re glad it did. It’s easy to see that a great deal of attention was paid to the single-player campaign. It’s long enough to keep you enthralled, plus the intense pacing never slows to a crawl. The environments display the horrors of trying to wield the powers of Hell in a very graphic way that you’ll come to appreciate, the action constantly moves at a fast pace and there’s so much to unlock. SnapMap gives creators so much more to do even after they’ve played the game at its most crushing difficulty. However, the multiplayer suite falters due to its blasé feel. DOOM is still worth hopping into due to its perfect mix of old and new school FPS workings.
Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-
Taken from Game Review: This is truly one of the best updates to a recent fighter we’ve ever played. Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- freshens up the roster with an array of returning characters and new warriors. This iteration is much kinder to incoming players thanks to the strong Tutorial Mode lessons and beginner friendly Stylish Mode. And visually, this 2nd installment of Guilty Gear Xrd action looks even more glorious across each battle and cutscene. It’s still disappointing to still have to sit through a long winded plot that doesn’t have any playable sections. The Arcade Mode offers up a nice mixture of playable battles and plot developments, but it’s strange to see that Jam doesn’t have cool cutscenes of her own. Nevertheless, Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- does an amazing job of keeping its frantic franchise fresh.

Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Taken from Game Review: Just when it seemed like the Lego games were getting a bit tiresome, here comes Star Wars to freshen up the formula. This whimsical take on The Force Awakens features everything that fans of Traveller’s Tales games’ love: great puzzles, hilarious jokes, hundreds of playable characters, plentiful secrets and overall fun gameplay. The additions of cover shooting mechanics, space dogfights and side quests that offer deeper lore into the world of Star Wars are all welcome. For those of you who need a reprieve from the Lego games, this release probably won’t bring you back into the fold. As for everyone else, this action platformer is a must play.

XCOM 2
Taken from Best Xbox One Games Description: The aliens actually pulled it off. Even though the human race employed the aid of their extraterrestrial fighting force to combat them, they still took over planet Earth. They’ve also taken over the human race, plus it seems like they’re not the benevolent leaders they were painted as. But we all know that their good nature is nothing but a farce. The XCOM resistance has returned and they’re ready to take back their home planet from those alien invaders. XCOM 2 features the same addictive strategic gameplay and custom character creation we enjoyed before. The combat now moves at a faster pace, so you need to be even more careful and not lose your most prized soldiers. The enthralling campaign and intense fight to reclaim Earth from a dangerous alien race propelled us to give our all in XCOM 2.
Inside
Taken from Best Xbox One Games Description: When the team that delivered Limbo announced their latest project, the anticipation for it hit a fever pitch. The fanbase that grew to appreciate its deep narrative and immersive gameplay knew those elements would carry over to this new game. When Inside finally arrived, it quickly grew into an experience that made gamers try to come up with their own explanation of its dark adventure. The nameless boy placed in the middle of Inside’s dark, tumultuous world had to brave various dangers. All the while, players were left to discover the true machinations behind a grave scientific experiment. The ending sequence left an indelible mark on anyone who watched it unfold. Inside is visually striking, haunting and simply a game that no one will easily forget.
