The Celtics are waiving Walker on Saturday, Bobby Marks of ESPN.com reports. Walker was unable to secure a regular-season roster spot with Boston despite impressing in the preseason. The 25-year-old forward will likely spend the 2024-25 campaign with the Maine Celtics of the G League unless he is able to find another NBA suitor.
Returns to bench
Walker will return to the bench for Tuesday's preseason game against the Raptors, Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca reports No surprise here, as Boston will have most of their starters returning from a rest day. Walker scored 20 points (8-15 FG, 4-9 3Pt) and dished out one assist across 30 minutes in Sunday's 115-111 preseason win over the Raptors. Walker was one of several Boston players who took advantage of the opportunity to see regular minutes Sunday, but that's not going to be the case in the regular season. Walker will fight for backup minutes, meaning he shouldn't have an established role or a lot of fantasy upside.
Enters starting lineup
Walker will start Sunday's preseason game against the Raptors, Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca reports. Walker will find himself in the starting lineup Sunday due to the Celtics benching most of their key players for the second half of a back-to-back set. Walker will likely not see much of a role come the regular season.

Decent output off bench Friday
Walker accumulated 15 points (6-13 FG, 3-8 3Pt), four rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in 33 minutes during Friday's 111-107 loss to New York. Walker needed 13 shots to score 15 points coming off the bench, but he was a standout performer for the Nets due to his ability to impact the game on both ends of the court despite not starting. Walker was unable to secure a starting role all season long, but he had more than a few decent performances with the second unit. Walker has scored in double digits in 27 different appearances, but only five of those have come since the beginning of March.
Strong from deep in loss
Walker notched 14 points (5-13 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 1-2 FT), seven rebounds, three assists and one block over 20 minutes in Monday's 133-111 loss to Indiana. Walker connected on a team-high-tying trio of threes while ending as one of two Nets bench players with 10 or more points and as one of four players with a double-digit point total in a losing effort. Walker got back into double figures in scoring after failing to do so in his last 10 outings, tallying 14 or more points for the 18th time off the bench.
Quiet again in victory
Walker closed with three points (1-2 FG, 1-2 3Pt) and one assist across seven minutes during Friday's 125-108 win over Chicago. Walker was used sparingly again Friday, playing fewer than 15 minutes for the ninth time in the past 10 games. Outside of a few outlier performances, Walker has been mediocre this season, and that might be putting it nicely. Barring injuries to other players, Walker can be safely ignored outside of deeper formats.
