Let go by Phoenix

The Suns waived Butler on Friday. Butler is set to explore other opportunities after being waived by Phoenix, though the club will retain his G League rights. The 25-year-old guard is coming off a career-best year in 2024-25, during which he averaged 9.0 points and 3.7 assists in 17.4 minutes per game across 60 regular-season appearances (17 starts).

Stuffs stat sheet in preseason win

Butler posted 35 points (14-26 FG, 5-10 3Pt, 2-6 FT), nine assists, seven rebounds and one steal across 34 minutes in Tuesday's 113-104 preseason win over the Lakers. Butler got the starting nod with Phoenix's usual starters sidelined, erupting for a game-high 35 points. Additionally, the 25-year-old guard led all players in assists and finished as the Suns' second-leading rebounder. Butler joined the team in free agency after the 76ers declined his team option for the 2025-26 campaign, and he'll provide backcourt depth for Phoenix behind Devin Booker (rest) and Jalen Green (hamstring).

Starting Tuesday

Butler will start in Tuesday's preseason game against the Lakers, Daniel Starkand of LakersNation.com reports. With the Suns resting their usual starters, Butler will get the starting nod in the team's preseason finale. The 25-year-old guard signed a one-year deal with the club in July and will compete for playing time off the bench with Collin Gillespie and Jordan Goodwin.
