DEAD HEAT: New Polls Show Obama-Romney in Virtual Tie

Despite a key Pew poll showing Barack Obama pulling ahead as we approach tomorrow’s presidential election, other polls show a dead heat.

Released Sunday, an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll showed Obama with 48 percent of the vote to Romney’s 47 percent. A virtual tie. It questioned 1,475 voters and has a 2.5 percentage-point margin of error.

A Politico/George Washington University poll shows both candidates at 48 percent. It polled 1,000 voters and has a 3.1 error margin.

The Pew poll predicted Obama pulling 50 percent of the national popular vote to Romney’s 47 percent.

Even if the popular vote is up for grabs, it’s the battle for the electoral college that counts. In the crucial battleground state of Ohio, a Columbus Dispatch poll — the paper’s last before the election — shows Obama leading Romney 50 percent to 48 percent, with a 2.2 percent margin of error.

Many analysts believe an Obama victory in Ohio would seal the deal in the race to 270 electoral votes.

In Florida, another swing state, an NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll shows Obama with a tight 49-47 percent lead over Romney.
