The story of Monsignor Kevin Wallin, the Connecticut priest who was recently exposed as part of a drug ring that transported crystal meth across the country, just got a lot weirder.
CTPost.com reports that Church officials suspended the priest after they discovered he was a cross-dresser who was having sex in the rectory at Bridgeport’s St. Augustine Cathedral.
Let’s just say it one more time: a cross-dressing, meth kingpin priest who was caught having sex in the rectory. It’s kind of like a messed up version of Clue. “It was the priest with the meth in the rectory!”
Wallin was relieved of his priestly duties in May when parishioners complained of the priest’s appearance and erratic behavior.
“We had no indication he had a drug problem and never had complaints regarding him and drugs,” Diocese Spokesman Brian Wallace said.
The church continued to pay him a stipend up until his January 3 arrest.
After being relieved, Wallin bought an adult specialty and video store in North Haven called Land of Oz that sells sex toys and X-rated DVDs. Investigators believe the shop helped the priest launder thousands of dollars in weekly profits.
Sources deeper than the church officials said the church knew more than they would like to admit. Rectory personnel notified officials when Wallin would entertain men, sometimes dressed as a woman, and engage in sex acts. Various sex toys were also found in Wallin’s residence.
“There is an evil invading our world and it has come to our church,” Maria Spencer-Fonseca, a long-time parishioner at St. Augustine said. “This was a work of evil — and I am praying for the monsignor.”
