The Toronto police have issued a public safety alert about the dangers of illegal butt enhancement injections.
The illegal procedures, taking place in homes and hotels across the Greater Toronto Area, involve injecting a substance into the body that is advertised as PMMA or polymethylmetacrylate.
Police say the backdoor procedures are leaving some women with serious medical complications.
This type of procedure performed outside a medical facility is very dangerous and could result in long-lasting complications and, in some cases, even death.

According to the public safety alert, potential patients are getting appointments through email or referrals, and the unlicensed injector then travels to the client’s home or a hotel to perform the procedure.
Usually costing thousands of dollars, the procedures are paid solely in cash.
Like a similar situation in the U.S., Canadian authorities are cracking down hard in a bid to protect any women and men who may fall victim to the scam.
Anyone with information about the illegal procedures has been asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
