Japanese Chef Killed Over Meal by Uphappy Diners in Germany

Acccording to German newspaper Sylt Rundschau, Japanese chef Miki Nozawa was killed in Germany on Monday after a confrontation with two diners who wanted their money back turned into a violent conflict.

Nozawa, 57, was rushed to the hospital with severe brain injuries and internal bleeding shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday after getting into a fight with two men at a bar in Westerland. He died the next day of a brain hemorrhage.

Rumors have been going around that the men, 50 and 36, were unhappy with the fried noodles served by the chef at his snack bar in Sylt earlier in the day and wanted their money back. The customers left without paying, but Nozawa ran into the pair again that night where the conflict continued and resulted in his death.

Nozawa was a chef well-known for his Italian-Japanese fusion cuisine who has served Mikhail Gorbachev, Denzel Washington and Phil Collins. His family says that the conflict was racism fueled and that the chef has been subject to racial slurs since he opened his snack bar in April.

“My ex-husband was not aggressive, absolutely good-natured man,” said You Nozawa, the chef’s ex-wife, “he never would have started a fight.”

The two men were arrested but were later released due to a lack of evidence.
