Camp counselor Annais Rittenberg is dead and 4 other counselors were injured after a large tree fell onto a group of people at Camp Tawonga, a Jewish summer camp, outside of Yosemite National Park in California according to local news sources. No campers were injured.
According to the camp’s website, the camp was in the middle of its second session so children were present at the camp at the time of the tree fall. The camp has around 250 children each session.
That area of California is known for their redwood trees which can grow up to 350 feet tall and 20 feet in diameter. A spokesman for the local sheriff’s office said that the tree has been inspected and that they saw no immediate reason for the tree’s collapse.
