Maryland will hold its primary for both parties on Tuesday, April 26. Maryland is second to Pennsylvania in importance for the Republican or Democratic primaries on the April 26 slate. The state represents the second-largest number of delegates of any of the day’s states for both parties.

Here’s what you need to know about each party’s Maryland primary:


Democratic Maryland Primary 2016

DATE: Tuesday, April 26, 2016

POLLING HOURS: Voting will be open to registered voters from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET.

CANDIDATES IN THE RACE: Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are fighting for the Democratic nomination.

TYPE OF PRIMARY: Maryland is a closed primary for both parties. Only members of the Republican or Democratic party may vote in either’s primary.

DELEGATES AT STAKE: There are 95 Democratic delegates at stake. The proportional method will be used to divide the delegates among the two candidates based on the results.

LATEST POLLS: Clinton has an average lead of 20.7 percentage points on Sanders based on the early polling.

POLLING HOURS: Voting will be open to registered voters from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET.

CANDIDATES IN THE RACE: Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, and John Kasich all remain in the race on the Republican side.

TYPE OF PRIMARY: Maryland is a closed primary for both parties. Only members of the Republican or Democratic party may vote in either’s primary.

DELEGATES AT STAKE: There are 38 delegates at stake for the GOP candidates. 54 are not pledged to any candidate regardless of the voting results. 24 are given winner-take-all to the winner of each of Pennsylvania’s eight districts, with another three going to the statewide winner.

LATEST POLLS: Donald Trump has an average lead of 21 percentage points in the early polling.
