Evidence seized from Brock Turner‘s cell phone includes a photo of the convicted rapist smoking marijuana and a group-chat discussing a woman’s breast on the date of his arrest.
A sentencing brief written by Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeffrey Rosen, released today among 470 pages of documents related to the case, reads in part:
“…the search of the Defendant’s cell phone shed some light onto the Defendant’s behavior and character during the time period in question and the year prior to attending Stanford. There were many items of evidence indicating the Defendant was engaging in excessive drinking and using drugs: (1) Photo of the Defendant smoking from a pipe … (2) Close up photo of a bong and another photo of a Stanford swimmer and Defendant teammate with a bong in his hand. … (3) Video depicting the Defendant smoking from a bong and drinking out of a bottle of liquor immediately after taking a “bong hit” …
The photo of Turner smoking a pipe can be seen above. Police sought a warrant to search his phone after noticing a group chat exchange, dated January 18, the date of Turner’s arrest. It included a comment from a teammate that said “WHOS TIT IS THAT”:
“Detectives were unable to locate the text from the ‘Group me’ application or any photos related to that text,” wrote Rosen. “However, they learned that when there is a third party application, the images are not stored on the phone and can be deleted by a third party member in the group.”
Below you can read the full sentencing brief, which includes accounts from other women describing Turner’s unwanted advances in days prior to the assault.
